Join us for the revamp and renewal of Eco Book Club, sponsored by We Are Neutral.
For the first meetup of 2018 we will discussing Engineering Eden: The True Story of a Violent Death, a Trial, and the Fight over Controlling Nature by Jordan Fisher Smith.
The book focuses on the civil trial following the 1972 death of Harry Walker from a bear attack in Yellowstone National Park. What followed was a struggle to define the role and responsibility of the National Park Service to protect it's visitors and in effect control nature.
Jordan Fisher Smith spent 21 years as a park ranger in California, Idaho, Wyoming, and Alaska. His 2016 nonfiction book ENGINEERING EDEN: THE TRUE STORY OF A VIOLENT DEATH, A TRIAL, AND THE FIGHT OVER CONTROLLING NATURE won the Silver Medal for nonfiction in the 2017 California Book Awards and was longlisted for the 2017 PEN/E.O. Wilson Literary Science Award.
