Poetry Workshop: Ekphrasis w/ Caylin Capra-Thomas

  • Third House Books & Coffee 113 North Main Street Gainesville, FL, 32601 United States (map)

Ekphrasis: Writing in Response to Art

Anyone planning on attending is encouraged to bring an image of their favorite art piece. (Preferably printed, but on some kind of screen will do. If you forget, we'll have plenty of images on hand.) We'll read a few famous samples from this genre, discuss how the most successful ekphrastic poems approach their subject, and then begin building poems in response to the images we've brought. Participants are encouraged (though not obligated) to share their writing.

Seating is limited so reserve your spot ASAP. This workshop is free and open to the public!

CAYLIN CAPRA-THOMAS is the author of two chapbooks: Inside My Electric City, due out in autumn 2016 from YesYes Books, where it was a finalist for the 2015 Vinyl 45s Chapbook Contest, and The Marilyn Letters, available through dancing girl press. Her poems have appeared in numerous journals, including Crazyhorse, Willow Springs, Ninth Letter, The Journal, Salt Hill, and elsewhere. She is the recipient of the 2016 Louisville Literary Arts Association’s Writer’s Block Prize in Poetry, and Yemassee’s 2016 Nonfiction Prize. She lives in Gainesville, Florida.
