The orchid thief

by Susan Orlean

This months Better Than pick gets local and meta. We will be reading Susan Orlean's phenomenal personal story of her encounter with the eccentric John Laroche as he searches for the elusive Ghost Orchid with the ultimate intent of cloning it. Their journey takes them through the swamps of Florida and dangerous encounters. The book was optioned to be adapted to the screen by the equally eccentric Charlie Kaufman. As he struggled to write the screenplay, he instead chooses to write about his own experience with John Laroche and Susan Orlean, creating a wickedly funny and equally crazy film. Directed by Spike Jonze, you're in for a treat.

Movie Screening: Wednesday, March 28, 2018 @7:30PM
